According to the Department of Defense, over 48,000 U.S. service members have been wounded or injured as a result of combat actions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere in the global war on terror since the 9/11 attacks. For these patriots, the road to recovery is long. Military couples in particular encounter intense challenges along the way.
Operation Heal Our Patriots, a ministry project of Samaritan’s Purse, focuses on bringing spiritual refreshment, physical renewal, and marriage enrichment to wounded and injured U.S. military service members and their spouses. To thank these brave men and women for their service and sacrifice, we offer programs uniquely developed to strengthen the marriage relationship and build hope for the future through the transforming power of God’s Word.
"Our week in Alaska really opened up our eyes to see God is still there. It was us that backed up, not Him." -- Army Sergeant Ken and Jessica Lind
Operation Heal Our Patriots gives wounded veterans and their spouses the opportunity for spiritual refreshment, physical renewal, and marriage enrichment. Couples participate in Biblically based seminars that help strengthen their relationships with God and others and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation with outdoor activities at our Alaskan wilderness lodge. We continue to support these men and women after their initial stay, keeping their spiritual needs and marriages a priority. The 2018 summer season opens May 27.
We are a non-denominational group of guys striving to get closer to God. We are not here to supplant the church; we are here to supplement the church. Our mission is to bring men together in Christ. Wingmen allows us to facilitate the growth of the masculine relationships needed to be successful.
Our approach is twofold. Our corporate events allow for a casting of the net and provide a comfortable venue for men, of any denomination or faith, to attend. The Element groups provide a more intimate way for men to develop and build relationships. As a ministry, we try to show men, in a practical, non threatening way, how to grow closer to God and to live out their destiny in Christ, with other men supporting them. Wingmen is an intentional and practical way of showing men how to be in community and not in isolation.
We are a non-denominational group of guys striving to get closer to God. Our mission is to bring men together to affirm that our identity is in Christ and to create disciples. Our approach is threefold:
Corporate Events
We hold Corporate events that meet every other week. These events allow for a casting of the net for men to invite other men, co-workers, and business associates to attend. At this event we will expose men to fellowship with other men that is Christ-centered, masculine worship, testimonials, relevant and engaging speakers that have “draw appeal”, and finally prayer.
Elements
We encourage men to meet in small groups we call Elements on the opposing weeks. The Element groups provide a more intimate way for men to develop and build relationships. Elements are the glue to bind the men in unity and cohesion. In essence we are forming “tactical units.” To illustrate this principle using a military theme, when you have gone through adverse conditions and situations, you have “bled” and battled along side an individual, you will not disengage and flee the fight.
1 on 1 Discipleship
We encourage the men to find another man to disciple and execute the mission that Christ commands us in the Great Commission:
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”(Matt 28:19-20 NIV)
